Anyway, I need something that can take adequately shut up shots of my daughter in the marching band. I will either be at the fence or in the stands.
Generally at nighttime with a lighted field.
Price is a concern, only I don't mind spending the money if I have to get practiced results, within reason. My upper limit would exist around $1200.
I accept a squeamish pocketbook, tripod, SD card, etc, just need the camera and lense(south).
Whatever suggestions?
Cheers in advance,
Todd

My vote goes for the FAST, medium-length telephoto, getting closer than the stands, and cropping in a flake at the computer.

Accept a look at these pictures of a night football match taken by Mark Smith: Flickr: SmudgerNCFC'due south Photostream
Every bit a bonus, it tin also produce pretty good in-camera 720/120p ho-hum move dark video:
If this is shut to what you demand, you tin go this photographic camera for less than $500 (backordered at Amazon at this price) and have $700 left over
Hope this is helpful,
Bill

Nikon D7000 or the Nikon D5200 with the lxx-300mm VR lens will practise the trick.
Respectfully, I have to disagree. Yes, you can get clean images with a 4.v-5.half-dozen lens at nighttime at ISOs up to 3200. Simply, even with a D7000, with marginal shutter speeds for moving subjects, the number of keepers is probable to exist low.

Nikon D7000 or the Nikon D5200 with the 70-300mm VR lens will exercise the play a joke on.
Respectfully, I have to disagree. Yes, you can get clean images with a 4.five-five.6 lens at night at ISOs up to 3200. But, even with a D7000, with marginal shutter speeds for moving subjects, the number of keepers is likely to be depression.
I am sad to concord with you but in the toll range of 1200$ this is the best I could come up with.
For a actually good depression calorie-free long altitude shooting I would recommend either the Nikon D600 or Catechism 6D with 70-200 F2.8 lens but thats about 4000$ value.
Even a D7000 with 70-200 2.viii volition be around 2800$
Ahh if money was not an issue what a keen camera+lenses I could become LOL

Alternatively the pentax k30 is well recommended for its noise handling, has inbuilt stabilisation and there are thousands of secondhand pentax fit lenses on the net, just pick a fast long 1

Yes this blows my budget, just hey, you only live once.
Any thoughts?
Thank you.

The 180mm might be less than ideal, but I call up it will do what I want, and if not, I did not spend a ton of money on information technology.
Cheers for the help everyone. I will permit y'all know how I like it once I go information technology.
